The two tables portray the breakdown of the consumption
and the production of potatoes in five different regions globally in the
recorded year of 2006 which are measured in kilogram per person and million ton
consecutively. Overall, despite the fact that European consumed the greatest
quantity of potatoes, Asia provided the biggest amount of potatoes in the
recorded year.
Turning into closer analysis, regarding potato
consumption, Europe posed as the most consumptive region with 96.1 kg consumption
per person. Similarly, North Americans demanded a huge need of potatoes that led
this region to be the second greatest consumer with 57.9 kg per person, 38.2
lesser than the first region. In sharp contrast, the other remaining three
regions encompassing Asia, South and Central America, and Africa only consumed
a relatively minimal number of potatoes which were only 25.8, 23.6, and 14.1
kilograms per person consecutively, around 50% lesser than the preceding
region.
Shifting toward the production of potato record, Asia
became the greatest potato source where 131.2 million ton of potatoes were
produced, it was in the stark contrast to the fact that they only consumed the
very few amount of potatoes in that year. Similarly, with only 4.9 million ton
lesser, their 126.3 million ton of potatoes made Europe to be the second most
productive region worldwide. However, it was in line with their considerable
need of potato. Vice versa, North America, which was part of the greatest
potato consumer, only supplied a small quantity of potato of only 24.7 million
ton, multiple times lesser than the two preceding regions. Correspondingly, the
rest regions of Africa and South and Central America only displayed a minimal
figure of only 16.4 and 15.6 million ton of potato production consecutively.
